Firefox Extensions - Tab Mix Plus

An irregular series discussing extensions to the Firefox browser

Firefox, as discussed in an earlier posting, has a very extensible design. There are third-party add-ons of all sorts to help you be more productive.

One of my favourite core features is tabs - the ability to have multiple sites open within the same copy of the application. Now that Internet Explorer has this feature, it has less of a "wow" impact; however, when it first became available it was seen as a powerful new way to use the browser. The only challenge is actually managing those tabs - what if you want to (or have to) close the browser, but want to re-open it at the same sites. Or you want to control better how much screen real-estate the tabs take up? Enter Tab Mix Plus - one of the best add-ons available for Firefox. It supports a wealth of features; key, for me, are tab management (I have 3 rows across the top of my browser window with currently over 60 sites open) and session management. This is the feature that "remembers" the sites you have open when Firefox is closed and opens them up again when you restart the browser. I also set the middle mouse button to open a link in a new tab when it's clicked - helping to manage the number of windows I have open.

Firefox is a great browser - it's fast and easy to use. It's made even more so by add-ons like Tab Mix Plus.
